The sun was shining, the paddocks were full of classic cars and Shelsley Walsh Hillclimb was alive to the noise and drama of the inaugural Lucas Classic on Saturday 24th June. It was the perfect setting to celebrate the history and heritage of one of our greatest parts manufacturers. Lucas Classic parts have graced automobiles since the very first cars hit the road over 100 years ago.

This relaxed day out set in the Worcestershire countryside had something for the drivers and spectators alike. Event sponsors included SNG Barratt, Holden Vintage and Classic, Britpart and Wassell, so we were treated to everything from classic saloons, sports cars and motorcycles to seemingly rocket-powered 4x4s blasting up the hill. On display, there were classic Land Rovers from a bygone era through to the latest Lucas fuel injection system on an E-Type Series One that runs on fully synthetic fuel, raising and answering many questions about the sustainability of our classic cars in a greener world.

This event felt refreshingly different. It was a day out for classic motoring enthusiasts and their family and friends to enjoy with live music, shops and traditional stalls replacing the usual rows of traders under gazebos. TV celebrity Fuzz Townshend was also on hand to join the commentary throughout the day and give out prizes for the skittles and Scalextric alongside the show car winners.

The good news for all who attended is that The Lucas Classic is set to return next summer, bigger and better, with a date already pencilled in for late June, so watch this space or visit www.thelucasclassic.com for further updates as places will be limited.
