Girling E-Type Shock Absorbers

Girling Shock Absorbers for E-Type Series One and Series Two

When you get behind the wheel of a classic, the driving experience goes beyond the comfort, the handling, the smell, the noise and the power – essentially, the car just has to “feel right!” To achieve this feel, we often strive to find original parts only to discover some parts are no longer available.

One such part was the Girling shock absorber fitted to the original 6-Cylinder E-Type and other Jaguar models which has been unavailable for many years, possibly decades. The standard replacement became a BOGE damper, but since they were also discontinued about four years ago, there has been a notable lack of reasonably priced non-adjustable options.

SNG Barratt is delighted to announce the reintroduction of Girling branded shock absorbers starting with a new range of dampers suitable for the E-Type Series One and Series Two. They have been meticulously redesigned and built to replicate the original look and feel of these period shock absorbers. Stamped with the Girling logo and the original part number, these traditional style shock absorbers have been developed to replicate the damping curve of their 1960’s counterparts.

As a note, the new Girling dampers are also painted in the original paint code RAF Grey/Blue BS633 which was readily available as surplus paint after WW2 in an economically stretched Britain. When the RAF needed something painting, they would call in the ‘633 Squadron’ i.e., the painters. This paint was in plentiful supply at the time as Girling and Land Rover continued to use it for many years.
